Ive really liked this series, but this one not my favorite, but still a good enough read to continue with the series.Still loving the lots of action and butt-kicking eventhough they are now diplomats/ambassadors. The comedy, the romance and steamy times included. I did not like how we seem to have "loss" of our team, all with new positions, gets confusing and frustating not only for the reader but also the characters as you will see when you read. I was really upset with the loss of the usual closness of Kitty and Reader/James, it seems Mr White is taking over that role, just not the same. I also felt it was too confusing and frustrating with soo many plots and politics, jeeesh, IM NOT A POLITICS FAN and this really turned me off, couldnt keep who was who and what conspiracy or lying who was part of or doing, and it seems to continue with all the political conspiracies when read the sneak peak for next book, unsure if I want to continue... They all seem to hate their new jobs and I felt depressed and hating their new jobs too, especially Kitty, and no one seems to care or really help her, even Jeff, he knows she is depressed but keeps making her do things she hates, and why doesnt he have her help him more? even Christopher and Chucky seem to hate and are harsh towards her. Just because she doesnt like paperwork doesnt mean she cant be with jeff more, they are BOTH ambassadors, she is treated somewhat like some political or trophy wife to me, and its like even her mom supports the men making her continue this crap. I really wanted to cry at the end, "setup" so lonely and again friendless in the big DC. If DC is really this bad, its hell on earth if you ask me.

Alien Diplomacy Alien Novels Gini Koch Books Reviews
Yippee, glad to get the latest installment! This series is so fun, I really look forward to each new one. Over the top, sure. Too many characters to keep track of, yep. But that's all okay somehow because of the humor, originality and likable main character. If you liked the early books with Sookie and Anita you will probably like this series -- plucky heroine and quirky male entourage, but with a much better sense of humor. This installment in the series is quite different because most of the team is in transition due to new roles in their organization and a new home, which happened at the end of the previous book. Kitty matures somewhat but does not lose her sarcastic wit. Fairly good plot involving a rumored threat from unknown enemies against an unknown target. Some of the bad guy reveals were pretty obvious all along however it is still enjoyable to read along as everything unfolds.
These books are great fun and make me wish I'd been the one near the "accident" that first book! This premise is actually quite believable for Sci Fi/ Famtasy stories and while you don't have to read them in order to follow the storyline, It's really great to do so! You can really get into the lives of the characters because they are well developed and most feel like people you might know.
This book was the one I worried about though, because I believed Koch couldn't make Diplomacy very exciting -WOW was I wrong!
My only criticism, and actually that word may be too strong, is that the sex scenes, (yep they sure are in each book) are so frequent and described in such detail that they become silly after awhile. I'm certainly no prude! But if even half of those scenes were just mentioned, and given less graphic step by step directions, there'd be more space for the Other fantastic situations these two find thenselves in, we already know who the sex gods are by now! Those scenes just seems to get in the way of an interesting and exciting story by an Excellent Storyteller!
All of this is just my opinion of course, and if it was either leave all the sex in or no book/s at all... I'd say leave it all in! This Book, this Series, is just great and very much worth reading!
So... the best way that I can describe this book is... a caper. We have Kitty and Co. running around trying to figure out the different angles of a vague and never ending assassination plot and trying to determine who's involved. All the while in a new environment, Washington D.C., and trying to remain diplomatic and one step ahead of the political mechanizations of their new positions. Of course, there's many, many angles and people involved, all of which concern her new alien family and friends and Kitty's own family's espionage ties.
I do enjoy this series. A heroine that is strong and in charge and very smart while still having the American dream. But... Kitty's a bit too perfect, even though there are running gags and jokes about some of her very minor flaws. She always "figures it all" out in the nick of time and without her, no one, not a highly intelligent alien race or the espionage, CIA branch of the US government, would have a clue. So... that aspect of this series is getting a bit drug out and after book 5, it's a bit repetitive. But... on the flip side, that's why I liked this character from the start... her willingness to throw herself into harm's way and to "figure" out stuff literally on the fly. And as with all good capers, you have to have that one character who can piece together the puzzle and provide the aha! moment. But in this series, the aha moments are starting to feel rushed and the shine is starting to dull a bit.
As with all of the books in this series, there's a lot of frustrated, running around that includes lots of bullets, lots of near misses and lots of bad guys. Ms. Koch does a very good job of a bait and switch, watch this hand not that one! switcheroo when it comes to the plot. We are drug along with Kitty and Co. down many dead ends and as a reader, I was feeling their frustration too! But the scenes are fluid and the action hot, so I was able to forgive the long... nothing. Cuz that's a bit how I felt that the story was. A long, drawn out, but entertaining, fluff with really nothing substantial until the last couple of chapters. But then again, this is what Ms. Koch does best. She writes this long caper that just when you're about to flip to the back and spoil the mystery, she throws in a great scene to keep you glued to the pages again. And as with the previous books, despite the long, long bits of unexplained mayhem and evil doings, it all wraps up rather neatly in the end with the appropriate villains. And despite every character being a caricature/stereotype, it all... just fits. Any other author, I would not have followed a series this long b/c it would have annoyed me to no end. But Ms. Koch deftly weaves together the silly and the caper and it works beautifully. Kitty and Co. have some awesome lines and their sarcasm saves this from being too silly. And that's what I enjoy about this series. A light, fluff, fast read that's entertaining, funny, and action packed.
I'm rating this more of a 3.5, cuz I was asked to suspend a lot of disbelief at times and there's getting to be a bit of an overwhelming supporting cast.
